At GH, we've got MoonWalk nerves
Next month, for the third year running (or power walking) the Good Housekeeping team will join the 15,000 women and men on a half or a full marathon through the night, showing off our decorated bras to raise funds for the UKs biggest grant-making breast cancer charity, Walk the Walk. Read on to find out how we're training for this fantastic event and follow this blog to keep up with the highs and lows of the Good Housekeeping MoonWalk team between now and 12 May.

Im sorry? Did she say throw up?
Thats when it really dawned on me that this was going to be tough. I think that up until then Id been lulled into a false sense of security by the fun element. Fancy dress! Decorated bras! Big party in Hyde Park! What could be painful about that? Now I knew. I became very, very afraid. Looking at the training advice in my MoonWalk guidebook (for the first time) my panic rose even more. I was supposed to have started training weeks ago!
And so I got serious. I crawled out of bed at 6.30am to walk to work. I dragged my long-suffering boyfriend on extended schleps through North London, and I taught myself to Power Walk. At first this was actually the hardest thing. Lets face it, when youre on your own Power Walking can feel (whisper it) a little bit silly. Add to that the fact that my walking route map looks like a guided tour of last years riot hotspots and you can imagine how self conscious I felt, prancing through some of Britains roughest estates with my arms pumping. But as I got into my stride I realised how incredibly good for you it is, how much faster and how much fun. I also realised that my Walk the Walk T-shirt is a godsend now I wear it every time I go out as it explains exactly what Im up to and points out that Im doing it for a brilliant cause.
Because I know one thing for sure. On the big night all my nerves and self-consciousness will disappear. Ill be surrounded by thousands of amazing women united in the fight against breast cancer including the fabulous GH team and Penny Smith, whos doing the half. Every step of the way therell be hoards of friends, family and volunteers cheering and supporting us, which gives you the boost you need to get yourself to the finish line. And I know, despite it all, Ill end up smiling. So lets hear it for the fun element.
If youre joining us on May 12, do comment and let us know how youre getting on and come back next week to find out how the rest of the Good Housekeeping team are handling the training...
