The best ways to remove suntan lotion stains
Fabric
Scrape off excess lotion and pretreat with a prewash stain remover. Wash on the hottest possible setting for that fabric.
Upholstery
Scrape off excess lotion. Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda or cornflour onto the stain. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes, and then vacuum. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with a proprietary dry-cleaning solvent and blot until the solvent is absorbed. Keep sponging and blotting until the stain disappears.
Carpet
Scrape off excess lotion. Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda or cornflour onto the stain. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes, and then vacuum. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with a proprietary dry-cleaning solvent and blot until the solvent is absorbed. If the stain remains, mix one tablespoon of washing up liquid and one tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water. Using a clean white cloth, sponge the stain with the detergent/vinegar solution and blot until the liquid is absorbed. Sponge with cold water and blot dry.
