Sir Terence Conran wins at the House Beautiful Awards 2012

Britain’s most influential designer Sir Terence Conran has won the Editor's Award for the Conran Collection for Marks & Spencer at the ninth House Beautiful Awards.

A true icon of modern living, Sir Terence Conran introduced contemporary furniture to the high street in the 1960s, bringing great design within everyone’s reach. After six decades at the forefront of British style Sir Terence continues to shape the way we live with a beautifully crafted and effortlessly stylish collection for Marks & Spencer. House Beautiful Editor Julia Goodwin says: ‘The Conran Collection has brought good design to a wider marketplace. Shoppers wanting a sofa, table or storage unit can be sure that these exquisite pieces will look great years from now.’

Held at the Science Museum, the 2012 House Beautiful Awards comprised 26 hotly contested categories, recognising excellence in the year’s best home products and retailers. House Beautiful Editor Julia Goodwin was joined by an expert panel of judges, including designers John Rocha, Jeff Banks, Sophie Conran, Oliver Heath, Nick Munro, David Domoney, presenter and DIY expert Tommy Walsh, cookery writer and presenter Mary Berry and winner of the BBC’s 'The Great British Bake Off' 2010, Edd Kimber.

House Beautiful reader-voted category winners were Dunelm Mill for Best Home Retailer and John Lewis for Best Online Retailer. Presenter Nick Knowles took the Gold Award for Favourite Home-Related Celebrity, with Alan Titchmarsh scooping the Silver Award.

The House Beautiful Awards were also an opportunity to commend rising stars of the design world with the Designer Of The Future Award, sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements, going to Oliver Hrubiak for the Finn lounge chair.
