Our Home Cook of the Year
The winner is announced and wins £5,000 worth of fabulous Rangemaster equipment
A delicately-flavoured, skillfully-prepared and perfectly-cooked platter of Mediterranean dishes has won Abi Burns the title of House Beautiful's Home Cook of the Year. Abi, from Lincolnshire, entered her selection of chickpea patties, filo feta rolls, baked aubergine and toasted pitta bread with tahini dip in the competition run by House Beautiful in association with Rangemaster. She was one of four finalists chosen to come to the kitchens at Broadwick Street for a Masterchef-style cook off.
Judges TV chef Lesley Waters, House Beautiful cookery expert Jeni Wright, Polly Beech from Rangemaster, and House Beautiful editor Julia Goodwin, were hugely impressed by the standard of cooking from all of the contestants, but the range and depth of Abi's dishes and skills won her the top prize of £5,000 of Rangemaster equipment. 'This platter sums up what I like best about cooking preparing food and eating together as a family my kids love getting involved,' says Abi. 'Then we sit round the table and relax and share our food.'
Joint second place were Lucinne Sarafyan from Bristol who made Sarma, a dish passed on to her by her Armenian grandmother, and Vanessa McNiven from Cambridge with her children's favourite 'After Swimming' Salmon, Potato and Watercress Bake. Fourth place went to Emma Amoscato from Watford who made her decadent Gluten-free White Chocolate and Raspberry Brownies with Raspberry Coulis. Look out for our November issue to find out more about the winners and their delicious recipes.
